The Kirk on Easter Monday 2010

Uploaded by: BahaHurican

Monday April 5, 2010

Nassau, Bahamas

Caption: This is St. Andrew's Presbyterian Kirk in downtown Nassau. (Notice the flag atop the steeple.) The Kirk has been in this location since 1810, when the cornerstone was laid, though it has gone through numerous expansions, renovations and rebuildings since then. This is one of several church buildings in the Nassau area to be destroyed in the renowned 1866 hurricane. Shirley Street, one of Nassau's major thoroughfares, is only this empty because the photo was taken on Easter Monday, which is a local public holiday.
