Danville, VA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Male pileated woodpecker left right in the middle of feeding the babies. The second baby did not even get fed. Evidently, there were predators close by. Both male and female were close by calling out loudly. The babies still have no sense of danger. This one was hanging out and calling out to Dad for more food! Then second baby pushed its way to to stick its head out a bit.

I think it was more likely that the parents are trying to entice the babies on a first flight. That is probably why the babies weren't fully fed.

The parents most likely have an ALARM call that makes the babies hide if there are predators noticed.
