Tok, AK (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Gif showing snow accumulation last evening and overnight. Sorry for the 'interruption' in accumulation; I had to make a weather report at 5:30 pm, where I measure snowfall on the snowboard, and then scrape it off to get accumulation for the next 24 hour period.

Storm total so far (it's still snowing lightly as I post this) is 12.5 inches, though several locations around Tok received up to 18 inches. This has been FUN!

I too watched this several times, as a "snow lover" living in Georgia, I will never see anything like this. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Dave and pbcbb.

Pbcbb, it takes more that that to shut down Tok! :)

The two 'summer' hotels are closed, the three all-season hotels are business as usual.

Anyway Great job on this one. Congratulations on the AC & VIP also.

Thanks Charlotte and Peter.

Peter since we are so very late getting this snow, maybe we have 'caught up' to where our snow-on-the-ground might be in an average year... perhaps.

Quoting nanapoo:

Yup Sharon, I'm grinning ear-to-ear!
Quoting LarryD:
That is so cool. A really great subject for a GIF. Where are the snowflake photos?
Larry these were those tiny, sandy 'grains' of snow, not the 'party-girl-going-to-the-prom' snowflakes. No fun to take individual shots of these... billions and billions... :P
Quoting weathercrazy82:
Isn't that a pretty big dump for Tok? I thought they received a whole bunch of small snow falls being in a drier area.
You are spot-on in your observation weathercrazy82, this is very, very unusual for us in Tok! We generally get 1-2 inches in each snowfall, in our 'almost desert' climate, and not very often. A dumping like this is MAJOR! This is almost half our average winter accumulation.

I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
