Hi, sgray, thanks for your response! We are always so quick to try to 'fix' something we don't like. We don't know yet what affects the spraying of large areas with invasive species will have. What will it do to the water fowl, the insects, butterflies, birds?

Brenda, this is proof that not all reed is bad. Thanks for your nice comment!

In Austria is a farm where phragmites are grown for the purpose that in northern Germany the old reed roofs can be restored. Why can't we do that? The tubers are also very good to eat, cooked as we cook potatoes, they taste like chestnuts.
