It is a wild animal and is not allowed to be held as a pet. They are very rare and in some areas, like Israel they are extincted. The newborns in the Ramat Gan Safari Park are part of a global conservation program.

The cats have been extinct in Israel since the 1990s, but the zoo is working with a European breeding program to improve their numbers
