Jekyll Island, GA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: The Roseate Spoonbill, Platalea ajaja, feed in shallow fresh or coastal waters by swinging its bill from side to side as it steadily walks through the water. The spoon-shaped bill allows it to sift easily through mud. It feeds on crustaceans, aquatic insects, frogs, newts and very small fish.

Very nice capture, Dorothy, I like the composition and also the grass background... This photo is worth to be published in a naturalistic book!

LOVE the Roseates and to see an entire flock of them must have been a sight. A beautiful photo, Dorothy. It's so interesting to watch them work the water while all the time walking the marsh or water's edge. I watched one preening the other day, and believe it or not, they can actually preen themselves quite well with that paddle shaped bill. Amazing little creatures. Congratulations on your AC, dear TSSAB. Love that song too. :)

I think if I had seen this row of beauties, I
might have fainted from joy! They are just so
beautiful! Colorado has no pink birds that I
know of. The lighting in this shot is just
fantastic! I just get happy looking at this!
That Blue frame gets a smile, too!
Congratulations, Dorothy!

Quoting gusbuster:
Looks like a courting dance, and the soft light highlights only the facing side. Nice composition the way you aligned the sun. LOL someday i am going to learnt how to do that. Is that a hint of blue blossoms in the grass directly behind them?

LOL!! I owe the sun big time now!! ;-)

I'll have to go back and look to see if there are blue flowers in that marsh grass ... I don't think so, though. It's probably some wet shells reflecting the sky.

Thank You, Gale!! I saw them on the marsh as I was driving home and so I pulled over and rolled the passenger side window down and shot this from the car. I used my 18mm-180mm zoomed to the max. I wish I could've gotten closer, but I'm sure they would've flown away if they saw me get out of the car.

They almost look like they are skating on ice, but it's just very wet marsh mud. I would be Slip Slidin' Away if I had to walk around out there. ;-)
