Krynica-Zdroj - history
Sources indicate that Krynica existed before 1547. The development of the city is linked to the discovery of mineral springs in the XVII century. . The beginning of the spa became the "Little House" from 1794., Which housed the first bathing establishments. As a spa bath Krynica was named in 1807.
Cranberry baths began to apply here since 1858. The resulting objects such as Old Mineral Baths, Old Mud Baths, Bath House, Main Pump House Theatre of pedestrian and larch. Also contributed to the development of the spa building in 1876. railway line to Muszyny, extended in 1911. to Krynica-Zdroj. At the end of the XIX Krynica became fashionable and exclusive spa, meeting place of many famous people including Jan Matejko, H. Sienkiewicz, J.I. Kraszewski, H. Modrzejewska, J.Tuwim, K.I. Gałczyński, W. Rejmont, J. Kiepura.
Krynica is also known from the work of primitivist painter Nikifor called Krynica.
After World War I restored some buildings and built a new inter alia New Baths, New Bath House. Also built on the Jaworzyna shelter and queue the Parkowa, winter stadium and a toboggan run. Krynica became a center for winter sports, there were, among others, European Championship and World Cup luge in ice hockey.
The Second World War and the occupation interrupted the development of the resort. However, after the war was extended resort spas, new industry, effective and a natural, pump-room home in a concert hall, tennis courts - Krynica became the largest resort in the mountain spa team.
