Looks like a Black Snake. Pretty common in our area. They can get to be a pretty good size too. I bet you guys were very amusing. Kind of Keystone Cops meets Black Snake.

You should have seen us trying to keep this reptile corralled long enough to get pictures. Mike helped me by getting in it's way and making sure it was aimed for me. It put up with us a little, then slithered right past me and I couldn't catch it.
