Pilot Mountain, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Not being able to get into the park because of the press of people and cars, I drove some of the back streets behind the mountain and got some unusual views, which only those who live there are usually privy to. It must be nice to be able to see the mountain close up all the time like that, but again, these are the people who were most affected by the fire last fall, who feared their homes would burn and who put up with the smoke, traffic, and general inconvenience for days.

Thanks for commenting, Joan! I don't usually go poking around on back roads close to the mountain like this, because I know some of the homeowners are sensitive to tourists and have had trouble with them from time to time. But I was frustrated that I couldn't get into the park so this was next best!
