Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:30 AM AST Aug. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk in effect through this afternoon...

* location... northwest to northeast facing beaches as well as
Vieques, Culebra and Saint Croix.

* Timing... through this afternoon.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry away even the best
swimmers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
