Special Statement
Issued: 2:42 PM CDT Aug. 18, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Elevated heat indices are ongoing this afternoon...

Afternoon heat index values have reached into the 101 to 108
degree range for a large portion of south central Texas.
Prolonged exposure to the heat and exertion outdoors without
proper hydration and other precautionary actions may result in
heat related illness. Heat index values will fall through the
evening but a warm morning in the mid and upper 70s is expected
and will limit heat stress relief.

Please take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside
in the afternoon and early evening. Stay hydrated and take breaks
in the shade or an air conditioned building. Limit strenuous
outdoor activities and check up on the elderly, sick, and those
without air conditioning. Never leave children or pets unattended
in a vehicle, even for a couple minutes, and remember to look
before you lock!
