... Wind Advisory in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT
this evening...

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT
this evening.

* Locations... Niagara, Orleans, northern Erie, and Genesee
counties.

* Timing... from early this afternoon through early this evening.

* Winds... southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 45 to 50 mph.

* Impacts... strong winds will blow over loose outdoor objects.
Small tree limbs may be blown down, with isolated power outages
possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use
caution until the winds subside. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio
and other radio and TV stations for further details or updates.

... Severe weather threat this afternoon and early evening...

Thunderstorms developing across the Ohio Valley will rapidly
intensify as they move into western and central New York early this
afternoon. This will be followed by another line of storms late
this afternoon and early evening.

Some of these storms may become severe with damaging winds in
excess of 60 mph. Be prepared to take action by taking shelter in
a substantial building.

Thunderstorms may also produce torrential rains, with water
quickly ponding on roads and low-lying areas.
