Flash Flood Watch, Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 7:55 PM EDT Aug. 18, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 am EDT Saturday...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southern Maryland and central Virginia, including
the following areas, in southern Maryland, Calvert, Charles,
and St. Marys. In central Virginia, King George.

* Until 2 am EDT Saturday

* thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected across the
region through this evening. The potential for training
thunderstorms exists, which could result in several inches of
rain in one to two hours. Soils are already very moist,
meaning most of this rain would rapidly run off.

* Runoff from excessive rainfall may cause rapid rises of water in
low-lying and poor drainage areas as well as streams and creeks,
resulting in flash flooding. Poor drainage areas will be most
susceptible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

653 PM EDT Fri Aug 18 2017

... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 3 am EDT
Saturday...

* location... St. Marys County.

* Tidal departure... 1 to 1.5 feet above normal.

* Timing... around the time of high tide, which will be 11:38 PM at
Point Lookout and 12:22 am at Piney Point.

* Impacts... water is expected to go over a portion of The
Bulkhead near The Straits Point Bridge, and also cover yards
in the St Georges creek and St Marys River areas. Minor
shoreline inundation is possible elsewhere.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
