El Dorado County in northern California...

* until 630 PM PDT

* at 335 PM PDT, radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms
near Carson Pass and Hope Valley. Rainfall amounts of over one
inch have fallen along with large amounts of small hail. This will
result in flooding along highways 88 and 89 and in adjacent low
spots.

* Do not drive into areas where water covers the roadway. Plan on
delays driving over Carson and Luther passes due to heavy rain and
low visibility.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 3:20 PM PDT Aug. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect until midnight PDT tonight
for abundant lightning for fire weather zones 213, 214, 215, 263,
266, 268, and 279...

* wind... South Valley winds 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph.
Terrain driven winds in the mountains 5 to 10 mph with gusts up
to 15 mph. Gusty, erratic winds likely in thunderstorms.

* Humidity... minimum humidities between 20 and 30 percent
recovering overnight.

* Thunderstorms... thunderstorms developing through this evening
with the potential for an increase in fire starts due to
abundant lightning.

* Impacts... fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning for abundant lightning means that
thunderstorms are forecast to occur with frequent lightning that
will likely result in increased fire starts. Erratic gusty winds
in thunderstorms will likely result in rapid fire growth. A
combination of abundant lightning, dry fuels, low relative
humidity and erratic outflow winds can contribute to extreme fire
behavior.
