Issued: 2:51 PM PDT Aug. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

The air quality alert that was issued by the San Joaquin Valley
air pollution control district for Merced County, Madera County
and Fresno County remains in effect through Wednesday.

The air quality alert that was issued by the Mariposa County
air pollution control district for Mariposa County has been
extended through Wednesday. This alert specifically applies
to the area in and around Wawona.

Smoke from the South Fork wildfire will continue to impact the
above referenced counties through midweek.

Exposure to particle pollution can cause serious health problems,
aggravate lung disease, cause asthma attacks and acute
bronchitis, and increase risk of respiratory infections.

Residents are advised to use caution as conditions warrant.
People with heart or lung diseases should follow their doctors
advice for dealing with episodes of unhealthy air quality.

Additionally, older adults and children should avoid prolonged
exposure, strenuous activities or heavy exertion, as conditions
dictate.
