Special Statement
Issued: 4:09 PM AKDT Aug. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Periods of heavy rain expected Sunday night through
Tuesday...

A weather front in the Gulf of Alaska will move slowly over the
Panhandle tonight through Tuesday afternoon. Rain amounts over the
next two days will range from one half of an inch to one inch on
Sunday night. There will be a lull in the rain amounts Monday
morning before another period of heavy rain will affect the area
from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. Additional rain
amounts will range from 1 to 2 inches with the highest amounts
along the Coast Mountains.

At this time rivers are expected to rise significantly and run
fast but stay within their banks. Ponding of water may occur on
roads and flat areas. Boats should be checked to make sure pumps
are working correctly and that vessels are not collecting water.
This additional rain on already saturated soils raises the
potential for mud slides.
