Special Statement
Issued: 3:38 PM AKDT Aug. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Heavy rain expected Sunday night through Tuesday afternoon...

A weather front with moisture from former Typhoon Banyan will
lift over the southern portions of Southeast Alaska starting
Sunday night and persist through Tuesday afternoon. Forecasted storm
total rain amounts for this event will range from 4 to 7 inches at
sea level locations and as much as 10 inches at higher elevations.

The constant precipitation the past week has saturated the soils
and the forecasted rain amounts will cause streams and creeks to
rise fast and significantly. At this time it is not expected that
river levels will rise above their banks. This is still an
evolving event, look for updates to the forecast on this situation
in the coming days.
