Winter Storm Watch
Issued: 9:00 AM PST Dec. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Watch now in effect from Thursday morning through
Thursday evening for the greater Portland and Vancouver Metro
areas... the Interstate 5 corridor and lower Columbia region of
southwest Washington and extreme northwest Oregon... the north
Oregon Coast Range... the north Oregon Cascade foothills... and the
South Washington Cascade foothills...

The Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Thursday morning
through Thursday evening.

* Timing... snow will begin mid to late morning on
Thursday... continue through much of the day Thursday in the
inland areas but start to change to freezing rain in the coastal
mountains in the afternoon. Freezing rain will then continue
inland until midnight... especially near The Gorge.

* Snow accumulations... generally 2 to 4 inches... but locally 3 to
6 inches such as far eastern Clark County and on the foothills
of the Cascades.

* Ice accumulations... a tenth to as much as a quarter inch of ice
is possible later Thursday and Thursday night.

* Wind... strong east winds locally gusting 40 to 50 mph across the
eastern Portland and Vancouver Metro area will lead to areas of
blowing snow... as well as cold wind chills.

* Impacts... travel will be difficult... especially from late
morning through Thursday evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
