Watches & Warnings

Blizzard Warning
Issued: 3:44 PM MDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Blizzard Warning in effect from midnight tonight to noon MDT
Friday...

The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Blizzard
Warning, which is in effect from midnight tonight to noon MDT
Friday. This upgrades and replaces the blizzard watch that was
in effect.

* Location... northern El Paso County including Monument and Black
Forest.

* Cause and timing... a developing storm system will rapidly
intensify on the eastern Colorado plains late tonight into
Friday morning.

* Snow accumulation... 8 to 10 inches with deeper drifts.

* Wind... north 35 to 45 gusting to 65 mph resulting in heavy
blowing and drifting snow and near zero visibilities.

* Impact... conditions will be hazardous due to heavy, blowing and
drifting snow and whiteout countdowns. Snow covered roads and
near zero visibilities will make travel difficult to impossible.
Strong winds and heavy, blowing snow may result in power outages
and tree damage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor
visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions,
making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must
travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded,
stay with your vehicle.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:52 PM MDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 8 PM MDT this evening
for fire weather zones 226... 227... 228... 229... 230... 231... 232...
233... 234... 235... 236 and 237...

* affected area... fire weather zones 226... 227... 228... 229...
230... 231... 232... 233... 234... 235... 236 and 237.

* Winds... southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Relative humidity... 5 to 10 percent.

* Impacts... conditions will be favorable for the rapid ignition,
growth and spread of fires.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are expected. Strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels
will result in the potential for extreme fire behavior. Burning
or any other activities that could accidentally spark a wildfire
should be postponed.
