Watches & Warnings

Lake Effect Snow Warning
Issued: 3:54 PM EST Dec. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 7 am EST
Saturday...

Hazardous weather...

* lake effect snow will continue through Friday night. A more
persistent band of snow tonight into Friday will affect portions
of western Alger County... including Deerton... Sundell and Chatham.

* Northwest winds gusting as high as 30 mph will lead to blowing and
drifting snow tonight... especially near Lake Superior.

* Expect additional snowfall of 3 to 6 inches tonight over most of
Alger County. However isolated amounts up to 10 inches could occur
over western Alger County where a dominant band of heavy snow is
expected. An additional 4 to 8 inches of snow will occur Friday
into Friday night across Alger County.

Impacts...

* roads will be snow covered and slippery.

* Moderate to heavy snow and blowing snow will reduce visibilities
to less than one-quarter mile at times. The lowest visibilities
will occur tonight through much of the day on Friday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

* a lake effect snow warning means significant amounts of lake-
effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous
   or impossible.

* Prepare... plan... and stay informed. Visit www.Weather.Gov/MQT
