Coastal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 5:36 AM EDT Sep. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 4 am EDT Friday...

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a coastal Flood Advisory...
which is in effect until 4 am EDT Friday.

* Location: middle peninsula and Northern Neck locations adjacent to the
Chesapeake Bay and tidal rivers.

* Timing: within a few hours either side of high tide through early Friday
morning. Additional tidal flooding possible later Friday into Saturday.

* Impacts: inundation of water in and near low-lying coastal areas could lead
to Road closures and flooding of property.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds... wave action and / or
tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along the shore... and near
tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the possibility of Road closures and
minor flooding of properties. If travel is necessary... do not attempt to drive
through water of unknown depth.

All tide heights are relative to mean lower low water.
Time of the high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
Total tide combines astro tide and surge.
Flood category based on total tide.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southeast Maryland and Virginia... including the
following areas... in southeast Maryland... Dorchester... inland
Worcester... Somerset and Wicomico. In Virginia... eastern
Essex... eastern King William... eastern King And Queen...
Lancaster... Middlesex... New Kent... Northumberland... Richmond...
western Essex... western King William... western King And Queen
and Westmoreland.

* Through late tonight.

* Locally heavy rainfall from showers and thunderstorms will
persist across the region through tonight. Total rainfall
amounts are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches with locally
higher amounts possible. Excessive runoff from heavy rain
increases the potential for flooding across the area especially
in low lying and poor drainage areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
