Issued: 4:15 PM MDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this
evening...

* location... Roosevelt County and Chaves County plains.

* Winds... southwest 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* Timing... winds will strengthen around mid day, then become
very strong during the mid to late afternoon. Speeds will
trend downward with sunset, but will probably remain hazardous
in many locations tonight and again on Friday.

* Visibility... dropping to 1 to 3 miles at times in dust prone
locations.

* Local impacts... unsecured objects may become airborne and power
lines may topple over. Power outages will be possible. Cross
winds will be dangerous on northwest-to-southeast oriented
roads.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember, a High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent
or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or
gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to
7 PM MDT this evening...

* area and timing... much of the eastern plains of New Mexico this
afternoon through early evening.

* 20 foot winds... south to southwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts 55
to to 65 mph. Turning westerly by late afternoon.

* Relative humidity... 9 to 15 percent.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly
and will be hard to control. Long range spotting and extreme
fire behavior will be possible. Outdoor burning should not be
done.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of this red flag warning.
