Heat Advisory
Issued: 11:06 AM CDT Jul. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

* heat index values... peaking between 100 to 105.

* Timing... oppressive conditions will occur through early this evening.
Peak heat index readings and most dangerous conditions will be
during the afternoon and early evening.

* Impacts... temperatures and moisture this high could lead to
heat related illnesses with prolonged exposure. The elderly...
small children and pets are especially susceptible. Plan
ahead. Have a cool place to shelter from the heat. Avoid
outdoor activity during the midday and afternoon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures and high
humidity is expected. This combination will lead to possible
heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-
conditioned room... stay out of the sun... and check on relatives
and neighbors... especially the elderly.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.
