The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
High Wind Warning, which is in effect from noon today to 3 am PDT
Friday. A Wind Advisory has also been issued. This Wind Advisory
is in effect until noon PDT today. The high wind watch is no
longer in effect.
* Winds and timing... areas of west to northwest winds 20 to 30
mph with gusts to 45 mph this morning, will increase to
30 to 45 mph with gusts to 65 mph this afternoon, then continue
through late tonight before diminishing. Winds will be strongest
in western portions of the valley and in the foothills.
* Impacts... winds this strong may down trees and power lines,
causing property damage or power outages. Cross winds can make
driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile
vehicles and vehicles towing trailers. Major Road that will
be affected include highways 14 and 138, especially near the
foothills. Patchy blowing dust will reduce visibilities to
one quarter mile or less at times.
A High Wind Warning means that damaging high winds of 58 mph or
greater are likely or imminent. Secure all loose outdoor
furniture in advance of the onset of strong winds. Monitor the
