Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 10:59 AM MDT Jul. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of north and central New Mexico,
including the following areas: east slopes Sangre de Cristo
Mountains, Jemez Mountains, lower Chama River Valley, northern
Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet/Red River, Raton ridge/Johnson
Mesa, San Francisco River Valley, San Juan Mountains, south
central mountains, southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet,
Southwest Mountains and west slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

* Until 9 PM MDT this evening

* abundant moisture in place over the area and weak flow aloft will
set the stage for slow-moving thunderstorms with heavy rainfall.
The greatest potential for flash flooding will occur over steep
terrain, areas that have seen wildfires in recent years, and flood
prone areas across lower elevations. A quick 1 to 1.5 inches of
rainfall is likely from the stronger storms, with locally higher
amounts possible where storms repeatedly impact the same area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
