Watches & Warnings

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:33 PM MDT Jul. 30, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning now in effect until 10 PM MDT Sunday for dry
thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds for fire weather zones
478 and 492...

* affected area... fire weather zone 478 Salt Lake desert and
fire weather zone 492 central Utah west desert.

* Thunderstorms... scattered thunderstorms with numerous lightning
strikes through this evening. Thunderstorms will redevelop
tomorrow afternoon and persist through tomorrow evening.

* Outflow winds... gusty and erratic winds in excess of 40 mph
will be possible with any storms that develop.

* Impacts... the threat of lightning and gusty winds in addition to
very dry conditions will bring the potential of multiple new
fire starts.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
