... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this
evening...

* timing... through early to mid-evening.

* Heat indices... will range from near 105 to 110 degrees.

* Impacts... prolonged exposure to the heat and humidity may lead
to heat-related illnesses if precautions are not taken.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation
where heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids and stay
in an air conditioned room. Stay out of the sun and check up on
relatives and neighbors. Temperatures within vehicles can become
lethal in a few minutes. Never leave children or pets in
vehicles. Remember to beat the heat... check the backseat.

northwestern Barton County in central Kansas...

* until 630 PM CDT

* at 613 PM CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists were
tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles
southeast of Milberger to near Albert... and moving east at 10 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with these storms along
with locally heavy rainfall.

* Locations impacted include...
Great Bend, Hoisington, Albert, Olmitz, Galatia and Susank.
