Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 2:34 PM CDT Apr. 30, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 am CDT Monday...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri, including the following
areas, in southern Illinois, Alexander, Edwards, Franklin,
Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson,
Massac, Perry IL, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union, Wabash, Wayne
IL, white, and Williamson. In southwest Indiana, Gibson, Pike,
Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. In western Kentucky,
Ballard, Carlisle, Daviess, Fulton, Henderson, Hickman,
McCracken, and Union KY. In southeast Missouri, Bollinger,
Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Mississippi, New Madrid, Perry
MO, Ripley, Scott, Stoddard, and Wayne MO.

* Until 1 am CDT Monday

* the Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for all of southeastern
Missouri, southern Illinois, southwestern Indiana, and a few
border counties of western Kentucky along the Ohio and
Mississippi rivers. While additional rainfall totals should not
exceed one inch, any and all shower or storm activity that falls
on the already saturated grounds, swollen and flooded creeks,
streams, and tributaries, will result in continuing flooding or
retrograde any gradual water recessions that may be occurring.

* In addition to flash flooding of roadways and streams, the
already fallen heavy rains will be causing further rises on many
of the area rivers, particularly the smaller rivers in southeast
Missouri, such as the Saint Francis, black, and current rivers.
Given the widespread rainfall that has already occurred across
the region, other larger river systems, such as the Mississippi
and Ohio rivers, will likewise see rises in water levels into
early may. Due to the prolonged period of these rains, some of
the flash flood warnings that have been issued or are still in
effect may be transitioned to areal flood warnings after the
rain has finally diminished.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
once flash flood warnings are issued.
