Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 3:09 PM EDT Jul. 27, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from 2 am EDT Thursday through
Friday morning...

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of east central Kentucky...
northeast Kentucky... south central Kentucky and southeast
Kentucky... including the following areas... in east central
Kentucky... Bath... Elliott... Estill... Fleming... Menifee...
Montgomery... Powell and Rowan. In northeast Kentucky... Johnson
and Martin. In south central Kentucky... Laurel... McCreary...
Pulaski... Rockcastle... Wayne and Whitley. In southeast
Kentucky... Bell... Breathitt... Clay... Floyd... Harlan...
Jackson... Knott... Knox... Lee... Leslie... Letcher... Magoffin...
Morgan... Owsley... Perry... Pike and Wolfe.

* From 2 am EDT Thursday through Friday morning.

* A stationary front over the region will keep a persistent threat
for showers and thunderstorms in our forecast. A wave of low
pressure will move along this front bringing a threat for heavy
rainfall and flash flooding beginning late tonight and
continuing through Thursday night with 1 to 3 inches of rainfall
predicted.

* Runoff from heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding of small
creeks and streams as well as poor draining areas where
thunderstorms pass repeatedly over the same location.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
