Special Statement
Issued: 11:10 AM EDT Jul. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Dangerous heat expected today through Saturday...

Temperatures should reach the 88 to 93 degree range today while
dewpoints remain in the upper 60s to lower 70s. This will lead to
heat indices peaking in the 97 to 102 degree range. High
temperatures will average a degree or two warmer on Friday, mainly
in the low to mid 90s. When combined with high humidity values,
heat indices should peak in the 98 to 103 degree range. On
Saturday, temperatures should reach the 87 to 92 degree range
while dewpoints remain near lower 70. This will lead to heat
indices peaking in the 97 to 102 degree range on Saturday
afternoon. In additional, temperatures will not drop below 70 in
many places each night through Saturday. Heat of this magnitude
could be dangerous, especially for the elderly, small children,
and those with pre-existing health conditions and pets.

Those planning outdoor activities later this week and into the
weekend should take frequent breaks in the shade, drink plenty of
water, and limit strenuous activities during the afternoon and
early evening hours when the heat is at its peak. Ensure outdoor
pets have shade and plenty of water. Continue to monitor later
forecasts for updates.
