Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 2:43 PM EDT May. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to
11 am EDT Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington DC has
issued a coastal flood advisory, which is in effect from 6 PM
this evening to 11 am EDT Thursday.

* Locations... sensitive portions of the Washington DC and
Alexandria Waterfront.

* Tidal departure... 1 to 1.5 feet above normal.

* Timing... around high tide this evening and again Thursday
morning. High tide at Washington Channel is at 7:47 PM this
evening and 8:01 am Thursday morning. High tide at Alexandria is
at 8:05 PM this evening and 8:19 am Thursday morning.

* Impacts... shoreline inundation is expected along portions of
the seawall adjacent to Ohio drive and the Hains Point loop
Road. Water is expected to approach the curb near the
intersection of King Street and strand street in Alexandria.
Minor shoreline inundation is possible elsewhere.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

Forecast tides are referenced to mean lower low water
(mllw) and mean higher high water (mhhw) unless
otherwise noted. Time of high total tide is
approximate to nearest hour. Total tide combines the
normal tide and departure from normal. Flood impact
is based on the total tide and waves where applicable.
