Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 3:22 PM EDT Jul. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from 8 PM EDT this evening through
Monday morning...

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central New York and
northeast Pennsylvania, including the following areas, in
central New York, Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland,
Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, Tioga, and Tompkins. In northeast
Pennsylvania, Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, northern Wayne,
Pike, southern Wayne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming.

* From 8 PM EDT this evening through Monday morning.

* Thunderstorms will move through the watch area this evening and
tonight, producing heavy rain. The potential of 1 to 2 inches
per hour rainfall rates across an already saturated ground will
lead to the threat of flash flooding. Especially for the
southern tier of New York into the western Catskills and all of
northeast Pennsylvania.

* Most favorable areas for flash flooding are the poor drainage
areas in and around urban locations, and the sensitive areas
that have recently received heavy rain and experienced
flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
