Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:10 AM AST Sep. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 am AST early this
morning...
... High rip current risk remains in effect through Saturday
afternoon...

* waves and surf... seas up to 7 feet with breaking waves up to 8
feet.

* Location... from the northwest to northeast beaches of Puerto
Rico and Culebra.

* Timing... high surf through 6 am AST early this morning. High
rip current risk through Saturday afternoon.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry even the strongest of
swimmers out to sea. Large breaking waves that can knock
persons and animals off of rocks and jetties and into the sea
and cause coastal erosion.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.
