Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 5:11 PM AST Nov. 13, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

* Through Thursday afternoon

* there is a high risk for flash flooding across Puerto Rico and the
U.S. Virgin Islands through Thursday afternoon as a strong
tropical wave just east of the area moves to the west-northwest
and across the islands during the next day or so. However, the
moisture associated with the tropical wave will continue to pool
over the area through Thursday.

* This moisture, combined with an upper level trough, will
increase the risk for flooding, especially from Wednesday
morning through Wednesday evening across the local islands.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor for the latest forecasts and be prepared to
take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

449 PM AST Tue Nov 13 2018

... High rip current risk now in effect through Thursday afternoon...

* location... north facing beaches of Puerto Rico and St. Croix.

* Timing... through Thursday afternoon.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry even the best
swimmers out to sea.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
