Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 11:36 AM AST Sep. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk remains in effect through at least
Saturday afternoon...

* surf... breaking waves around 7-9 feet the rest of today
increasing somewhat Thursday and Friday.

* Location... from the northwest to northeast beaches of Puerto
Rico and Culebra.

* Timing... high rip current risk through Saturday afternoon.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry even the strongest of
swimmers out to sea. Large breaking waves that can knock
persons and animals off of rocks and jetties and into the sea
and cause coastal erosion.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
