Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 5:24 PM AST Sep. 17, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 am AST Wednesday...
... High rip current risk remains in effect through late Thursday night...

* waves and surf... seas up to 8 feet breaking waves up to 13
feet.

* Location... from the northwest to northeast beaches of Puerto
Rico and Culebra.

* Timing... high surf from 6 am AST this morning through 6 am AST
Wednesday. High rip current risk through the end of the week.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry even the strongest of
swimmers out to sea. Large breaking waves that can knock
persons and animals off of rocks and jetties and into the sea
and cause coastal erosion.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.
