Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 3:34 AM AST Sep. 23, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from this evening until Wednesday
afternoon...

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for Puerto Rico including Vieques and Culebra
and as well all the U.S. Virgin Islands.

* From this evening until Wednesday afternoon.

* As Tropical Storm Karen approaches the forecast area tonight,
shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to gradually
increase across the region. The heaviest rainfall activity is
expected to occur during the day on Tuesday. Even though Karen
is expected to move out of the area by early Wednesday,
additional shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to
continue across the local area through Wednesday.

* Widespread rainfall totals between 2 and 4 inches with higher
amounts near 6 inches are expected across the local islands. At
this time, the heaviest rainfall accumulations are expected
across the southern and eastern half of Puerto Rico and the U.S.
Virgin Islands. Rainfall of this magnitude has the potential to
create urban and small stream and river flooding as well as
mudslides in areas of steep terrain.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
