In northern Virginia, Culpeper, Southern Fauquier and Stafford. In northwest Virginia, Madison, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge and Rappahannock. In western Virginia, Augusta and Rockingham. * WHEN...Until 10 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Radar observed ongoing showers and thunderstorms across the northern portions of the DC metro. These thunderstorms are producing instantaneous rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour, with locally higher amounts. These storms are forecasted to remain nearly stationary over the next few hours, which may result in flash flooding over sensitive and urban areas. Northeastern Albemarle County in central Virginia... * Until 730 PM EDT. * At 422 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 30 minutes. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
