THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 526 IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN NORTH CAROLINA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 11 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA DURHAM EDGECOMBE FRANKLIN GRANVILLE HALIFAX NASH ORANGE PERSON VANCE WAKE WARREN THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF APEX, CARRBORO, CARY, CHAPEL HILL, CREEDMOOR, DURHAM, ENFIELD, FRANKLINTON, HENDERSON, HILLSBOROUGH, KITTRELL, KNIGHTDALE, LOUISBURG, NASHVILLE, NORLINA, OXFORD, PRINCEVILLE, RALEIGH, ROANOKE RAPIDS, ROCKY MOUNT, ROUGEMONT, ROXBORO, SCOTLAND NECK, SPRING HOPE, TARBORO, WAKE FOREST, AND WARRENTON.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... ...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM EDT SUNDAY... * WHAT...For the first Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 107 are expected. For the second Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 109 are expected. * WHERE...Southern and eastern Piedmont, Sandhills, and Coastal Plain of central North Carolina. * WHEN...For the first Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the second Heat Advisory, from 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
