Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 3:28 PM MDT Jul. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight MDT
tonight...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Colorado and Utah, including the following areas,
in Colorado, Animas river basin, central Colorado River Basin,
central Gunnison and Uncompahgre river basin, debeque to Silt
corridor, Four Corners/upper Dolores river, Grand Valley, grand
and battlement mesas, Paradox Valley/lower Dolores river, Roan
and tavaputs plateaus, and Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas
Divide. In Utah, arches/Grand Flat, canyonlands/Natural Bridges,
La Sal and Abajo Mountains, southeast Utah, and tavaputs
plateau.

* Until midnight MDT tonight

* scattered to numerous thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected
over the watch area, continuing through late this evening.

* Flash flooding due to heavy rainfall is possible, especially
over already saturated soils. Slot canyons, burn scars, and
normally dry streams, washes and arroyos are most susceptible to
flash flooding. Water can rise quickly downstream of heavy rain,
even when a thunderstorm is miles away. Rock and mud slides, and
high water flowing across roads, are also possible which could
impact travel. Heavy rainfall is also possible on Friday, with
the focus shifting towards west-central and southwest Colorado.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
