Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 4:06 PM MDT Aug. 23, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
southern Mesa County in west central Colorado...
west central Montrose County in west central Colorado...

* until 700 PM MDT

* at 401 PM MDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause Arroyo and Small Stream flooding in
the advisory area.

* Streams and arroyos draining from the ridge of the Uncompahgre
Plateau into the San Miguel river from near Uravan to around 10
miles northwest of Uravan will be affected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 PM MDT this
evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Colorado and Utah... including the following
areas... in Colorado... Animas river basin... central Gunnison
and Uncompahgre River basin... Four Corners/upper Dolores
River... northwest San Juan Mountains... Paradox Valley/lower
Dolores River... San Juan River basin... southwest San Juan
Mountains and Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide. In Utah...
arches/Grand Flat... canyonlands/Natural Bridges... La Sal and
Abajo Mountains and southeast Utah.

* Until 10 PM MDT this evening

* showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop into the
evening. There is the potential that some storms will produce
excessively heavy rain in areas where soils are already
saturated.

* Flash flooding may occur in slot canyons... small streams and
normally dry washes. Heavy rainfall over steep terrain may also
trigger mud and rock slides. Flooding in urban areas with poor
drainage is also possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
