Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch, Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 3:01 PM EDT Sep. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through Friday afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of Delaware and northeast Maryland... including the
following areas... in Delaware... Delaware beaches... inland
Sussex... Kent and New Castle. In northeast Maryland...
Caroline... Cecil... Kent MD... Queen Annes and Talbot.

* Through Friday afternoon

* heavy rainfall associated with low pressure will affect the area
through Friday. The heaviest rains will taper off after daybreak
Friday. Widespread 2 to 3 inch rain totals are expected with
isolated amounts around 6 inches possible near the coast. These
rainfall totals are capable of producing flooding across the
watch area. If these rainfall totals are realized, storm total
rainfall across eastern Sussex County Delaware could be close to
12 inches. This will lead to widespread flooding issues in that
area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Po

148 PM EDT Thu Sep 29 2016

... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 am EDT
Friday...

* location... along upper Delaware Bay.

* Coastal flooding... minor coastal flooding is possible with the
high tide this this evening. Tidal flooding may approach
moderate with the high tide this evening. Note that there is
also a risk of flooding due to heavy rain through out the day.

* Timing... the coastal flooding is expected with the high tide
which will occur between 11 and 12 am tonight.

* Impacts... roadway flooding is expected near both high tides.

* Surge... tides will be up to 2 feet above astronomical tides.
However... heavy rain at the time of high tides could
exacerbate coastal flooding... leading to total water levels
even higher.

* Waves... around 1 to 2 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some Road
closures. Usually... the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to
costly repairs.
