... A Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams remains in
effect until 945 PM CDT Thursday for western Lyon... rock...
Minnehaha... Lincoln... southeastern McCook and Turner counties...

At 420 am CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
rainfall totals between 3 and 5 inches across the warning area since
the start of rain Wednesday morning. This excessive rain is causing
flooding of area streams, creeks, and drainage areas. In some
areas, Road closures will be possible due to the runoff from heavy
rainfall.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sioux Falls, Luverne, Canton, Rock Rapids, Parker, Lake Vermillion
state Recreation Area, Brandon, Harrisburg, Tea, Hartford, Lennox,
Crooks, Garretson, Wall Lake, Baltic, Worthing, Larchwood, Inwood,
Marion and Viborg.

Additional rainfall amounts up to one half inch will be possible in
the warned area before the rain ends Thursday afternoon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

the Big Sioux River at Brandon.
* Until further notice.
* At 04am Thursday the stage was 1204.37 feet.
* Flood stage is 1204.00 feet.
* Recent activity... the river rose above flood stage on Thursday June
21.
* At stages near 1204 feet... significant flooding of crop and pasture
land begins. Access to the north end of the big Sioux Recreation Area
on the west side of Brandon is limited.

the Split Rock creek near Corson.
* From this evening to Sunday afternoon.
* At 03am Thursday the stage was 5.23 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 8.50 feet.
* At stages near 11.0 feet... the Nursery near the mouth of Split Rock
creek begins flooding if the Big Sioux River is high enough to cause
a backwater effect.
