Hazardous Seas Warning, Storm Watch
Issued: 2:56 AM PST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Gale Warning now in effect until 7 am PST this morning...
... Hazardous seas warning now in effect until 10 PM PST Sunday...
... Storm watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon through
   Sunday evening...

The National Weather Service in Medford has cancelled the Small
Craft Advisory for hazardous seas.

* Winds... south gale force 30 to 40 kt with gusts to 50 kt until
later this morning. Southwest winds near or at advisory
strength will follow Friday into Saturday ahead of another
strong front on Saturday night and Sunday that will bring the
potential for storm force winds.

* Seas... seas this morning will be around 20 feet with mixed wind
waves and swell. Seas will become swell dominated later this
morning. A building long period swell will peak early Saturday
around 26 feet at 18 seconds. Seas are expected to remain very
high into early Sunday.

* Areas affected and timing... gales and very steep seas will
affect most areas beyond 5 nm from shore except closer to shore
near Cape Blanco. Hazardous extremely high seas will impact all
areas Friday night through Saturday night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots along with very
steep and hazardous seas are imminent or occurring. Operating a
vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly
equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without
the proper experience seek safe Harbor prior to the onset of gale
conditions.

A hazardous seas warning means very steep and hazardous sea
conditions are imminent or occurring. Recreational boaters should
remain in port... or take shelter until waves subside. Commercial
vessels should prepare for rough seas and consider remaining in
port or taking shelter in port until hazardous seas subside.

A storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of
48 to 63 knots has significantly increased... but the specific
timing and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to
provide additional lead time for mariners who may wish to
consider altering their plans.
