Watches & Warnings

Blowing Dust Advisory, Wind Advisory
Issued: 10:16 AM PDT Mar. 30, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Blowing dust advisory in effect from 3 PM MST /3 PM PDT/ this
afternoon to 11 PM MST /11 PM PDT/ this evening...

... Wind Advisory remains in effect from 2 PM MST /2 PM PDT/ this
afternoon to 11 PM MST /11 PM PDT/ this evening...

In addition to a Wind Advisory issued earlier, the National
Weather Service in Phoenix has also issued a blowing dust
advisory from 3 PM MST /3 PM PDT/ this afternoon to 11 PM MST /11
PM PDT/ this evening.

* Affected area... eastern Riverside and Imperial counties in
California, and La Paz and Yuma counties in Arizona. This
includes interstates 10 and 8 across southeast California
including the Colorado River.

* Timing... Thursday afternoon through late evening.

* Winds... west to northwest winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 50
mph. The strongest winds will be focused over La Paz and
northern Yuma counties, and along the Colorado River valley.

* Visibility... below 1 mile at times.

* Impacts... strong winds will create difficult driving conditions
especially for high profile vehicles, and Colorado River
boaters. Reduced visibility under a mile in blowing dust is likely.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained wind speeds of between
30 and 40 mph are expected, or wind gusts of between 40 and
58 mph. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially
for high profile vehicles. In addition, strong winds over desert
areas could result in briefly lowered visibilities to well under
a mile at times in blowing dust or blowing sand. Use extra
caution.

Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility. If you encounter
blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it
approaching, pull off the Road as far as possible and put your
vehicle in Park. Turn the lights all the way off and keep your
foot off the brake pedal.

Remember, pull aside, stay alive.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:56 AM PDT Mar. 30, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning in effect from 3 PM MST /3 PM PDT/ this
afternoon to 8 PM MST /8 PM PDT/ this evening for strong winds,
low relative humidity and high fire danger for the lower Colorado
River valley and southwest Arizona...

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a red flag
warning for strong winds, low relative humidity and high fire
danger, which is in effect from 3 PM MST /3 PM PDT/ this
afternoon to 8 PM MST /8 PM PDT/ this evening.

* Affected area... Arizona fire weather zone 131 Yuma/Martinez Lake
and vicinity/lower Colorado River valley AZ, elevated and wind
prone locations of Arizona fire weather zone 132 south-central and
southwest deserts, and California fire weather zone 231 lower
Colorado River valley CA.

* Winds... west winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph near the
Colorado River Basin. The highest winds will be in areas of
elevated terrain. Winds 20 to 25 mph gusting to 35 mph in
Maricopa County.

* Timing... Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening

* relative humidity... as low as 10 percent.

* Impacts... fuels are moderately dry and fire danger will quickly
become high Thursday afternoon. These conditions combined with
low relative humidity and strong winds will lead to widespread
hazardous fire weather conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Please advise the appropriate officials and fire crews in the
field of this red flag warning.
