Special Statement
Issued: 7:07 AM AKDT Sep. 27, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Strong northerly winds to develop late this week...

There is a growing likelihood for a period of strong northerly
winds late this week. This will result in hazardous marine and
aviation conditions as well as the potential for power outages
and flying debris over land areas.

An unseasonably strong area of high pressure over the Yukon
combined with a surface low pressure system over the northeast
Pacific will lead to the development of strong northerly winds
Thursday night through Saturday. Locations exposed to the north will
experience gusty winds with the potential for a taku wind event in
downtown Juneau and Douglas. Small craft to gale force winds will
develop over the northern and central Inner Channels.

This statement will be updated by 4 PM adkt Tuesday or sooner if
conditions warrant.
