Heat Advisory
Issued: 9:18 AM PDT Aug. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory in effect from noon Thursday to 8 PM PDT Friday...

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a heat
advisory... for the interior of western Washington from Seattle
southward... which is in effect from noon Thursday to 8 PM PDT
Friday.

* Temperature... high temperatures Thursday afternoon and Friday
afternoon will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s over the interior
of western Washington from Seattle southward.

* Timing... Thursday afternoon and early evening and Friday
afternoon and early evening.

* Impacts... hot weather increases the potential for dehydration and
heat related illnesses. The elderly... the Young... and those who
work or exercise outdoors will be the most vulnerable to heat
related illnesses if extra precautions are not taken.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot
weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter
of minutes.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and stroke.
Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink
plenty of water.

If you plan to go boating to escape the heat... wear an approved life
jacket. Drowning is the cause of most boating fatalities. Also...
avoid alcohol because it impairs judgment.

Special Statement
Issued: 3:49 AM PDT Aug. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Return of very warm temperatures over much of western
Washington Thursday and Friday...

A combination of a strong upper level high pressure ridge and
offshore flow will result in another round of very warm
temperatures for most of the area Thursday and Friday. Interior
lowland locations will see afternoon highs both days are expected
to be in the mid to upper 80s with temperatures in the southwest
interior expected to reach the low 90s.

Coastal locations usually spared from this level of heat will
also see temperatures in the 80s on Thursday... especially along
the north coast. There will be a slight amount of cooling Friday
as a gradual shift to weak onshore flow will start in the
afternoon but high temperatures will still be in the 70s... with
mid 70s to low 80s likely along the north coast.

The elderly... the very Young... and those with existing health
concerns should remain hydrated and attempt to stay in a cool
place during the heat of the day.
