Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 2:30 PM HST Aug. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 530 PM HST

* at 227 PM HST... radar indicated nearly stationary moderate to
heavy showers along the lower leeward slopes of The Big
Island... from Hawaiian Ocean View estates to Puuanahulu. Rain
falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour will lead to nuisance
flooding.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
Kailua-Kona... Captain Cook... Honaunau... Kainaliu... Kalaoa...
Honalo... Kahaluu-Keauhou... Kealakekua and Holualoa.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle... or on
foot. Turn around... don't drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 530 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for all islands.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* all Hawaiian islands.

* Through this afternoon

* deep tropical moisture will continue to produce heavy downpours
and a chance of thunderstorms through late this afternoon. With
streams remaining elevated and the ground already saturated from
recent heavy rains in many areas... there will be an elevated
risk for flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is very dangerous.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
