National Weather Service
... High surf advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PDT this
evening...
* surf... surf of 5 to 8 feet will continue through this evening...
with the highest surf expected across south facing beaches.
* Hazards... dangerous rip currents and larger breaking waves are
expected through at least this evening.
* Locations... south facing beaches including Long Beach to Palos
Verdes Peninsula... Malibu and Zuma... as well as pt. Mugu. South
facing beaches of Santa Catalina Island are included as well.
* Impacts... there is an increased risk for ocean drowning
especially with more people seeking relief from the hot inland
temperatures. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out
to sea. Large breaking waves can wash people off beaches and
rocks and capsize small boats near shore.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught
in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

National Weather Service
... Very hot with elevated fire danger for interior portions of
southwest California this weekend...
Very hot temperatures with elevated fire danger is expected for
interior portions of southwest California Saturday and Sunday. There
is also the potential for increased humidity over the weekend as
long range models show a possible surge of monsoonal moisture into
the area. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms across portions
of the San Gabriel Mountains and Antelope Valley each day which will
enhance the fire weather threat over these areas.
Triple digit heat is expected to be widespread across the valleys,
lower mountains, and Antelope Valley. In addition, very warm
overnight low temperatures in the 70s and lower 80s in the mountains
and foothills will add to the heat stress in these areas.
The hot temperatures will bring the potential for high heat risk to
portions of the lower mountains of Los Angeles County this
weekend where an excessive heat warning may be necessary. Moderate
to local high heat risk can be expected this weekend in the Los
Angeles County valleys, mountains of San Luis Obispo, Santa
Barbara and Ventura counties, and interior valleys of San Luis
Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, where heat advisories may
eventually be needed.
People should plan to reduce time in the sun during peak heating
hours this weekend and drink additional water to keep hydrated.
Stay tuned to the latest National Weather Service forecasts and
statements on this developing weather situation.
