Watches & Warnings

Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 3:07 AM MST Feb. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 am MST
Friday...

* timing... snow will increase in coverage and intensity this
morning, then continue through Friday morning. The snow will be
heavy at times today.

* Total snow accumulations... 10 to 16 inches with locally higher
amounts possible across much of east central Wyoming and the
northern Nebraska Panhandle. 7 to 13 inches along a Cheyenne to
Scottsbluff line.

* Winds/visibility... east to northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with
gusts to 45 mph across east central Wyoming, including Douglas
and Lusk. Otherwise, 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts.
Visibilities will be reduced to one quarter of a mile at times
in falling and blowing snow with near blizzard conditions over
Converse and Niobrara counties.

* Impacts... the combination of heavy snow and gusty winds will
cause considerable blowing and drifting snow with periods of
very low visibilities. This will make travel extremely dangerous
or impossible today, especially in northern areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in
an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
